Principals Report

Dear Parents and Carers

It's a racing week and in those terms we are past the halfway mark and on the home stretch for 2019. With just over 3 weeks remaining we are in good shape, ready to make our move to end the year on a high.

It has been a very busy few weeks as our teachers prepare final assessments and report cards, and the school prepares for the coming year. At this stage, the majority of our staffing for the coming year is falling into place and I am happy to announce that the teachers for next year are as follows, Prep- Miss Kristen Merli, Year 1 - Miss Lucy Pether, Year 2 - Mrs Telana Nel, Year 3 - Miss Kate Andrews, Year 4 - Miss Taylor Andrews, Year 5 - Miss Shaylene Spark & Year 6 - Miss Tarni Periera.

We will be having our transition day on the 25th of November that is when Shaylene will be here visiting us. We are very happy with her coming to St Kieran’s and I know that she is very excited with the new adventure she is about to embark on.

LAst week we enjoyed the company of our 2020 prep class. There were lots of very excited and happy faces and many requests to stay longer as their time came to an end. It was great to welcome these new students and many new families to our school community.

With only a short time remaining in the term and many events still to take place, please make sure you are checking notices and newsletters for the latest details. We would not want anyone to miss an important or fun event.

Have a great few weeks, God Bless

Claudine Dank

APRE

The Word

Jesus said, “Men will seize you and persecute you. They will imprison you because of my name and you will be able to bear witness. I shall give you wisdom and words. Some of you will be put to death, but not a hair of your head shall be lost.” Luke 2:5-19

The cost of discipleship. Following Christ is not always easy. In some countries Christians are persecuted and even put to death for their beliefs (around 100 000 per year). Jesus tells us that we too will suffer because we follow him. Yet through it all, God will be with us.

Lord God, you come to rule the earth, to rule with justice and reward those who have been faithful to you
Amen

Remembrance Day

On 11 November 1918, German leaders signed an Armistice, and the guns of the Western Front fell silent. For the four years of the war, from 1914 to 1918, more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas. More than 60,000 Australians had died while in this service. In 1918 alone, there were 48,000 casualties, which included 12,000 dead.

Each year at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, we observe a minute of silence. Remembrance Day is a day of commemoration. We not only remember the dead and those who served. We celebrate life, the gift of life, and the important work towards reconciliation of nations, unity, and peace and justice. We remember not only Australians but ALL who were involved in this particular armed conflict.

In early 19th Century literature, poppies symbolised sleep or a state of oblivion. In the battlefields of northern France and Belgium, red poppies were among the first plants to arise from the ground. On Remembrance Day, the red Flanders poppy symbolises the sacrifice of bloodshed.

On Friday on Assembly we will be having our Remembrance Day Liturgy. We invite you all to join us in prayer.

Dedicated priests and trained volunteers visit as many of our sick parishioners as possible in all our hospitals. If you are admitted to hospital remember to ask staff to mark your religion as 'Catholic' if you would like the ministry of a priest or Catholic hospital visitor.

National Prayer Campaign for Drought

The Catholic Bishops of Australia have announced a National Prayer Campaign for Drought to take place during November. People across the country are encouraged to pray for the gift of rain, for people affected by the drought and to provide practical support, where possible. The Bishops note that large parts of the country are directly affected by the drought, but the impact is national – and so should the response be national. Access resources and find out more at the link below.
